All About Visas

Before applying for a visa, please be sure about your purpose of visit
Foreign nationals who wish to travel to Greece must be in possession of a valid residence/work visa of the country they are applying from, unless they are nationals from countries which are not included in the list of countries with the obligation to carry a visa in order to cross external borders for stays in the Schengen Area. The holder of a Schengen visa is entitled to enter and stay, for a maximum of 90 days in any- 180 days period, from the date of entry into the Schengen Area.
Schengen visa has to be obtained from the Embassy/Consulate of the country where the main purpose of travel lies. Therefore, please check your travel plans before making your application to the Embassy of Greece. In case you are travelling to multiple Schengen countries, please submit your application to the Embassy/Consulate where you will be staying for maximum number of days. If the duration of stay is the same for all Schengen countries you are visiting, please submit your application to the Embassy/Consulate of point of your first entry.

An application for a Schengen visa can be lodged at the Embassy of Greece in the following cases:

Greece is the sole destination of the applicant
If the applicant intends to travel to more Schengen countries: Greece is the main destination of the applicant or, where there is no main destination, Greece is his/her first point of entry in the Schengen area.

Processing time :
The processing time for applications is maximum 15 days, as per the Schengen Regulation, In exceptional cases, this period may be extended up to 30 calendar days, notably when further scrutiny of the application is needed and when additional documentation is needed in specific cases, the period may be extended up to a maximum of 60 calendar days.

It is advisable to lodge the application as early as possible and at least 15 calendar days before the intended visit. Please note that applications can be lodged no more than three months before the start of the intended visit.

Visa Application Process

Step 1
Please ensure you read the security regulation notices before you visit the Visa Application Centre.

Step 2
Before applying, please ensure you are clear on your ‘purpose of visit’. Do remember our staff will be available to assist and help you through the entire visa application process. However, the staff are not permitted to advise or guide you on choosing a visa category. Please go to the link “All about your visas” for information on the various visa categories.

Step 3
Complete your Visa Application Form or download it here and affix your photograph.

Step 4
Attach all supporting documents, as per checklist. Make sure your application is complete. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Step 5
Schedule an appointment (mandatory)

Step 6
Organise payment of the visa fees in cash (AED)

Step 7
Submit your application at the VFS Global centre in Abu Dhabi or Dubai.
