Collection of Passport
From 1 June 2012 applicants who are granted visas will no longer be issued with visa labels. Valid visa holders will be able travel using the passport that they had used to apply for the visa. As we have gone visa label free there is no need to submit your original passport, however you must carry your original passport during submission. We will return your original passport on the same day and the Australian High Commission will send an email notification once the decisions are made.

Australia’s modern electronic visa system does not require you to have a visa label placed in your passport to confirm you immigration status and entitlements in Australia. When you check-in to fly to Australia, airline staff will use your passport to electronically confirm that you have authority to travel to Australia prior to boarding the aircraft.

Visa Evidencing Charges (VEC)

From 24 November 2012, visa holders will need to pay a Visa Evidence Charge (VEC) of AUD 70 to have a visa label placed in their passport. The charge is being introduced as part of the user-pays initiatives and to encourage the use of online immigration services.

You can only request and pay for a visa label if you have a current Australian visa. Regardless of when your visa application was lodged, or your visa granted, anyone who requests a visa label will be charged.
