9 November 2012: Visa Simplification and Deregulation – simplified Temporary Work visas

Following the making of regulations on 11 October 2012 by the Federal Executive Council, the Minister has announced that on 24 November 2012, the government will introduce a simplified Temporary Work visa framework. To read the media release, please go to: http://www.minister.immi.gov.au/media/cb/2012/cb191403.htm

This will reduce the number of Temporary Work visas from 17 to 8 subclasses. As well as creating a broader and more intuitive Temporary Work group of visas for clients to choose from, there will also be benefits that flow from standardisation of a number of Temporary Work visa requirements. For further information on these changes please go to: www.immi.gov.au/immigration/temporaryworkvisachanges

28 June 2012: Changes to Visa Application Fees

Visa application charges and other fees will change on 1 July 2012 in accordance with decisions made by the Australian Government.

New charges and fees will apply to any application received on or after 1 July 2012. Your visa application cannot be accepted at the AVAC if an amount less than the correct fee is provided.

Applicants intending to pay by bank draft or arrange payment through an immigration office in Australia should be aware that the visa fee may change in the time between arranging the payment and lodging your application.

For example: You may have to pay for the difference in the visa fee if:
  • you arrange for a bank draft before 1 July and lodge your application overseas after 1 July; or
  • the visa fee is paid in Australia before1 July and you lodge your application overseas after 1 July.
