OCI In Lieu of PIO
PIO Scheme has been withdrawn and merged with OCI scheme.
Applications for replacement can be filled up using the web links:
Important: The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to extend the date for submission of the application for registration as OCI cardholder by the erstwhile PIO cardholders till 31 December 2017.
External Affairs Minister has announced that the conversion of PIO cards into OCI cards will be done free-of-charge (gratis) for applications submitted until 31 December 2017. The facility is free of charge. However, service charge to M/s. VFS, will need to be paid.
After the expiry of the deadline, conversion of PIO card to OCI card will attract a fee of Euro 216 in addition to € 3 as ICWF Charges and € 18.51 towards Service Fee
It is pertinent to mention that erstwhile PIO cards are handwritten whereas the new OCI cards are machine readable. From October 2018, International Civil Aviation Organisation will accept only machine readable travel documents. The existing PIO cards which are handwritten will, therefore, become invalid travel documents.
Hence, it will be necessary for PIO cardholders to obtain machine readable OCI cards in lieu of existing handwritten PIO Cards before October 2018 to avoid any inconvenience.
Your payment allows you to deposit an application. The latter can be accepted, refused or modified by the Embassy of India in its full right. Once fees have been paid, they cannot be refunded, even in a case of an application refusal or cancellation.
