Marriage Certificate / Marriage Continuity Certificate

Marriage Certificate

A problem that many couples have faced in Spain is the need for an original marriage certificate. This is particularly true if one of the couple is a Spanish national, when the Spanish courts insist on a certificate of marriage issued by the original marriage authority, and not from the Embassy on the basis of the passports.

In such cases, the Embassy will issue a certificate to state that the registration of marriages in India is not obligatory in some States. On the basis of this document, the applicant can then apply, with this and other relevant papers, to the Spanish courts to begin the process of registration of the marriage in Spain, and later obtain from them a certificate of marriage.

Alternatively the marriage certificate can be given on the basis of the Indian passport – this service is available for Indian nationals only.
