UK - Pilot applying for a Dutch passport in Edinburgh extended

On 05 September 2016 the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has started a pilot enabling Dutch nationals to renew a Dutch passport or identity card at the VFS Global office in Edinburgh. As the pilot has proven successful so far, the pilot will be extended. As of 17 July 2017, the VFS Global Office in Edinburgh accepts both applications for renewals, as well as first applications for a Dutch passport or identity card. The applications will be forwarded to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs for assessment.

Important changes to visa applications from 1 March 2015

    • As of 1 March 2015, the way in which visa applications can be submitted in the UK will change. From the 1 March 2015, all visa applicants will only be able to submit their visa applications upon appointment at the VFS Global offices in London, Manchester and Edinburgh. As of this date, it will no longer be possible to apply for a visa at the Netherlands Embassy in London or the consulates in Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Harwich, Hamilton Bermuda, Hull, Liverpool, Manchester, Southampton and Dover.
    • Given current budgetary constraints, it will unfortunately no longer be possible to provide this relatively expensive service across the whole of the UK.
    • The following applicants will still be allowed to submit their application at the Embassy in London after the 1 March 2015: diplomats, MVV applications and applications for the Dutch Caribbean. All other categories, including Orange Carpet, will have to go to VFS Global. There may be exceptions, but these will be dealt with on an individual basis after the applicant has notified the Embassy of the emergency or special circumstances. It will be up to the Embassy’s discretion to decide whether the applicant may or may not submit their application at the Embassy.
    • For further information, please see the Embassy website: click here.
    • All applicants must have a passport that is not more than 10 years old as of the date of return from their scheduled trip. The same applies to passports issued more than 10 years ago that have since been extended. In this case applicants must renew their passport before making their visa application.
