Citizens of countries, which are signatories to the Visa Facilitation Agreement with the EU, pay a reduced fee or are exempt from paying any fee. Information on what applies to respective countries can be obtained from embassies and consulates of the EU Member States in these eight countries. The signatory countries are:

Totally exempt from the fee for a Schengen visa are:

children under the age of six
schoolchildren, students in higher education, postgraduate students and their accompanying teachers - on condition that the purpose of the trip is study or education
researchers - on condition that the purpose of the trip is scientific research
government official visits with a note verbal travelling on official or diplomatic passport
representatives of non-profit organisations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural and educational events organised by a non profit organization
relatives of citizens of the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland if they are travelling with the relative or will meet in connection with the journey. A certificate must be presented which confirms the marriage or familial relationship. The following persons are classified as relatives:
husband or wife
registered partner
common-law spouse (does not apply to persons co-habiting with Swiss citizens)
a child under the age of 21 or an older child who is financially dependent on its parents
parents who are financially dependent on children in Sweden.

Relatives of Swedish citizens must, however, pay a fee to apply for a Schengen visa.

Step 1
Only applications for Schengen visas are accepted at the VFS application centre. Please go to the menu “All about your Visas” to understand details of Short Stay Visa’s.

Step 2
A visa application can be submitted at the Swedish Visa Application centre in Brooklyn, Pretoria or at the Swedish Consulate in Cape Town. It is important to note that as from the 20 of February 2012 all applications must be submitted by the traveller(s) in person. No applications will be accepted via representative of any kind.
