Danish embassies and consulates occasionally reject visa applications. These decisions can be appealed to the Danish Immigration Service (newtodenmark.dk).
Embassies and consulates can also choose to present an application to the Danish Immigration Service. Decisions on these applications will be made by the Danish Immigration Service and rejections can be appealed to the Immigration Appeals Board.
Rejection of applications for visa to the Faroe Islands and Greenland decided by the Immigration Service can be appealed to the Ministry of Immigration and Integration
Further information on how to appeal the decision will be included in the individual refusal letter.
A Schengen visa is only intended to allow a foreign national to visit Denmark and/or the other Schengen countries for a limited period of time. A Schengen visa is strictly a visitor's visa and does not give the holder the right to reside or work in Denmark or any other Schengen country.
The issuance of a Schengen visa is discretionary and depends on examination of each individual application, including purpose of visit and intention to return to country of residence.
Mere possession of a visa does not confer an automatic right of entry into the Schengen region. Holders of a visa can at all times be requested to present proof that they fulfil the entry conditions at the external border, as provided for in Article 5 of the Schengen Borders Code.

According to the Visa Code the maximum processing time of a bona fide visa application is 15 calendar days. The 15 days are counted from the day when the Danish Consulate General in Sydney receives the application from VFS Global and deems it admissible. The shipment of the application between VFS Global and the Danish Consulate General comes on top of the 15 days. Therefore it is recommended to submit the application with VFS Global a minimum of 3 weeks before the intended date of departure.
If the supporting documentation is incomplete, the applicant will be contacted and given a deadline for providing this documentation. If the deadline is ignored, the application may be refused on the basis of missing documentation.
In some cases, the processing time can be extended to 45 days when further case processing is needed
Citizens of certain countries or categories of certain citizens are subject to prior consultation in one or more Schengen countries before a visa may be issued. The processing time in these cases will usually be 10-12 days as a minimum. See list of these nationalities and categories of persons (annex 16 to the Visa code Handbook).
