How To Apply

Short term visa

Step 1 Before you apply

Before you apply, please ensure that you are very clear on your purpose of visit – do remember we are here to assist and help you through the entire visa application process, but we are not authorised to advise or guide you on choosing the correct visa category. Since our work is primarily administrative in nature, we have no say on whether you will be granted a visa and how long it will take to process the application, as this is entirely the prerogative of the Danish mission.

Step 2 Gather your documents

Please gather the relevant documents provided in the document checklist based on the purpose of your trip. For more details on short term visas click here .

Please note that your passport should be valid for a minimum of three months after expiry of the visa; must be issued within the last ten years and must have two blank pages - if you do not have two blank pages to which a visa can be affixed, a new passport must be obtained before submitting your application.

Step 3 Apply and pay online

Go to the online visa application system called ApplyVisa (https://applyvisa.um.dk/NVP.App/frontpage). Here you will have to

  1. register a user,
  2. fill in the application,
  3. pay the visa fee and
  4. print and sign the cover letter

Please have your passport and credit card ready when applying and paying.

If you do not have access to a computer and printer, you can use the computer and printer at the Visa Application Centre.

Please note that you must pay with a credit card online. It is not possible to pay the visa fee at VFS.

In ApplyVisa, you will be asked to select a Visa Application Centre. Your choice determines where you will have to hand in your cover letter printed from ApplyVisa, along with your supporting documents, passport and biometrics.

Please note if you note any errors in your application data e.g. a spelling mistake, inform the staff at the VAC. If you detect an error, there is no need to make a new registration or payment in ApplyVisa.

The Danish visa section may ask for further documentation after you have handed in your application, documentation, and biometrics.

Please note that your application is not complete until you have finalised your application in person at VFS.

Step 5 Handling time

The Danish mission has 15 days to make a decision on your visa application from the date the Danish mission receives your application.

Be aware that in some cases, the processing time can be extended to 30 days, and in exceptional cases up to 60 days.

Long term visa

Step 1: Before you apply

If you want to work, study, seek family reunification, or stay in Denmark longer than 90 days, you should apply for a residence permit.

You apply for a residence permit through either the Danish Immigration Service or the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI).

To read more about the different kinds of residence permits, which one to apply for, and how to apply, go to the Danish Immigration Service and The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI)’s website.

Step 2: Documentation and biometrics

Once you have submitted your application and paid the fee to either the Danish Immigration Service or the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI), you will receive a case order ID. Make sure to hand in the case order ID along with the required documentation and your biometrics.

If you should only supply your biometrics as your application is already submitted to the relevant authority in Denmark, you must bring a copy of the confirmation letter (with your unique case order ID) stating that the application has been submitted online along with your passport. Please note that it is a requirement that the Danish mission receives your passport for validation. You can request the Danish mission to have your passport returned if you need it before your case has been processed.

The Danish mission may ask for further documentation on behalf of the Danish Immigration Service or the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) as well as request a personal interview at the Danish mission or at the Visa Application Centre (VFS) after you have handed in your application, documentation, and biometrics.

Step 3: Fee

The fee to either the Danish Immigration Service or the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration does not include the services provided by the Danish mission.

You can read more about payment for services provided by the Danish Foreign Service here

The fee to the Danish mission must be paid through the webshop (https://dys.um.dk/permit/). Remember to bring the receipt of the payment, when showing up at VFS Visa Application Centre.

Please note that besides the fee to the Danish Immigration Service or the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) and the embassy fee, there is an additional service fee when you hand in your application at the VFS Visa Application Centre. VFS service fee is 380 THB.

Step 4: Handling time

Processing time at the Danish Immigration Service or The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) varies according to the type of residence permit applied for:

Danish Immigration Service processing times

The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) processing times

Step 5: Decision

Once the Danish Immigration Service or The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) has reached a decision in your case, the Danish mission will notify you.
