The decision to issue or refuse a visa is made solely by Consular/ Immigration officers of Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. All applications will be assessed in accordance with the Federal Republic of Germany’s Visa rules and regulations and VFS Global has no role or influence over the outcome of an application and will not offer any evaluative advice.

For Prospective Applicants

An Applicant may apply for a visa 6 months in advance (180 days) for regular Schengen visa and 9 months in advance (270 days) for Seafarer – Transit visa prior the intended date of travel and is requested to read all the information on this site carefully. The guidelines listed on this site will the applicant to prepare for the required documents as accurately as possible. This will reduce the risk of your application being incomplete or take a longer time to being processed.

A Schengen visa has to be obtained from the Embassy/Consulate of the country where the main purpose of travel lies. Therefore, please check your travel plans before submitting your application to the German Embassy. In case of travel to multiple Schengen countries; please submit your application to the Embassy/Consulate where you will be staying for the maximum number of days. If the duration of stay is the same in more than one Schengen country, please submit your application at the Embassy /Consulate of the country of the point of first entry.

Once confirmed that your Schengen visa has to be obtained from the German Embassy, please ensure the purpose of your visit. Refer to the visa types to understand the details of the various visa categories. Applicants may select the visa type depending on their ‘MAIN PURPOSE OF TRAVEL’ and ‘DURATION OF STAY’.

For the Schengen visa category (Stay up to 90 Days): Foreign nationals who wish to travel to Germany must be in possession of a valid visa, unless they are nationals from countries which are not included in the list of countries with the obligation to carry a visa in order to cross external borders for stays in the Schengen Area of no more than three months (90 days), in a period of six months (180 days), from the date of entry into the Schengen Area.
