Overview

Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) is issued to both Indian nationals and foreign nationals (in respect of their stay in India) for specific purpose as requested by the applicant.

Documents Required

  • Duly filled in and signed PCC Application Form:-

    PPF- Police Verification Form – to be added with all applications

    2 (Two) recent photographs (2 inch X 2 inch) identical photographs showing frontal view of full face. Photographs should be in colour with white background with all applications.

    *Applicants need to ensure personal particulars are filled up correctly as mentioned in the passport such as Given name, Parents name, Gender, DOB, POB. However with regards to particulars such as present address and spouse name (due to marriage post issuance of passport) if there is a change, then applicant is required to provide documentary proof of change of address and marriage certificate.

  • Applicant's valid passport in original and self-attested photocopy pages containing personal particulars of the applicant.
  • Visa Status:

    • For Indian passport holders: Self-attested photocopy of the passport page containing valid UK Visa or UK Residence Permit Card.
    • For foreign passport holders: Applicants who are foreign passport holders and who never held any Indian passport need to submit self-attested photocopy page containing Indian visa on their passports.
    • Foreign passport holders who previously held Indian passport need to submit any of the following:

      • Self-attested photocopy page containing valid Indian visa on their passports.

        OR
      • Self-attested photocopy of the OCI or PIO Card (if the applicant holds OCI or PIO Card).

        OR
      • Self-attested photocopy of Indian Passport Surrender Certificate (foreign passport holders who previously held an Indian passport are required to surrender their last held Indian passport at the nearest Indian Mission/Post and obtain Indian Passport Surrender Certificate).
  • Proof of Residence: Any of the following self-attested documents viz. copy of utility bill (landline telephone bill/electricity bill/gas bill/water bill) or Driving License or lease deed (of residence) etc. where the applicant’s UK address is clearly mentioned, should be provided.
  • Please note if the applicant is unable to provide the original passport, the competent authorities may not be able to issue a PCC.
  • All fee paid for this service are non-refundable.

Processing Time: If you are Indian passport holder and if your complete passport particulars are available in the passport data base, this service is rendered normally within 7-8 working days (excluding the date of submission of application and date of dispatch of original and processed documents) subject to the application being complete in all respects.

  • If you are Indian passport holder if your complete passport particulars are not available in the passport data base, this service is rendered after obtaining the confirmation/ clearance from the original Passport Issuing Authority/ concerned police authorities in India and it may Minimum take up to 6-8 weeks. In such a scenario, original passport shall be returned to the applicant by post if so requested by the applicant (for this purpose, the applicant needs to send a request for return of the passport to the VFS Centre where the application was submitted by enclosing a self-addressed pre-paid envelope). On receipt of confirmation/ clearance from the original Passport Issuing Authority, the applicant shall be informed to re-submit his/ her original passport for completion of prescribed formalities following which the PCC shall be despatched to the applicant.
  • In case of other passport holder , this service is rendered normally within 7-8 working days (excluding the date of submission of application and date of dispatch of original and processed documents) subject to the application being complete in all respects.
Please Note:

  • Original documents provided will have to be submitted along with the photocopies, the same shall be returned to the applicants once the process is over.
  • The above are mandatory requirements. The applicant may be advised to submit some more documents, after scrutiny of the application and documents by the High Commission of India or its respective Consulates, on case to case basis.

Photo Specification

Note: Applicants are requested to ensure that photographs submitted with the application are strictly as per the below guidelines, any variations may lead to application being not submitted. Photographs obtained from an automated photo kiosk or a Polaroid camera are not acceptable, only professionally shot photographs will be accepted.

2 Un-mounted - 2 inch x 2 inch in size.

Face should cover about 70 to 80% of the photo area.

Taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance.

The photographs must be clear, well defined and taken against a plain white background.

Appropriate brightness and contrast showing your skin tones naturally

Even lighting (no shadows across or behind the face)

Face must be square to the camera with a neutral expression, neither frowning nor smiling and with your mouth closed.

If you must wear a head covering for religious reasons, make sure your full facial features are not obscured.

Non-tinted prescription glasses are allowed as long as your eyes are clearly visible. Make sure that the frame does not cover any part of your eyes. Sunglasses are not acceptable.

Headphones, wireless hands-free devices, or similar items are not acceptable in your photo.

Photograph for Child/babies - The photograph should show the baby or child awake, looking straight at the camera with mouth closed and nothing covering the mouth. It should also show both edges of the face clearly (no toys, blankets, chair backs or other people visible) and no hair across the eyes.

Collection of processed documents

Documents once approved & ready will be delivered by Post/Courier only. Applicants are required to provide one Self – addressed; Recorded & Tracked Special Delivery envelope (Silver Royal Mail Envelopes) to return the Passport and other documents, alternately applicants can use the courier service offered at the centre.
