In principle, foreigner whose nationality is other than the national or citizens of the countries & territories with visa exemption, visas will be required to enter Japan.
In principle, Japanese visa will be issued to an applicant, when he/she fills all of the following requirements and the issuance is regarded as reasonable.
For Hong Kong or Macau residents who are currently residing in Hong Kong or Macau are eligible to make visa applications at Japan Visa Application Center. People who have temporary visitors visas in HK are not eligible for visa applications. For those who are living other than Hong Kong or Macau, please consult with the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General in which are currently residing.
Temporary Visitor Visa
Temporary visitor visa is for those who are visiting Japan up to 90 days for purposes of sightseeing, visits relatives, friends, or acquaintances; and short-term business affairs.
Please note that all of the above purposes of journey to Japan shall exclude any activities engaging or involving the management of business or remuneration.
Foreigners who would like to perform remunerative work in Japan or for long term stays over 90 days in Japan etc. which are for purposes other than the temporary visitor, should apply for a “Certificate of Eligibility” in Japan at the Regional Immigration Bureau of Japan nearby before the visa application.
With the aim of giving young Hong Kong people the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the culture and general way of life of Japan, the working holiday scheme will allow those who meet the criteria to stay on holiday in Japan for up to one year and secondarily to take up employment there in order to supplement their travel funds.
The visa is issued to foreign nationals who wish to visit Japan for medical purposes (including full medical check-ups). The visa is issued to their accompanying person(s) as well if necessary and as needed.
