In principle, foreigner whose nationality is other than the national or citizens of the countries & territories with visa exemption, visas will be required to enter Japan.

Criteria of Visa Issuance

In principle, Japanese visa will be issued to an applicant, when he/she fills all of the following requirements and the issuance is regarded as reasonable.

  1. The applicant possesses a valid passport and is entitled for the re-entry to a country of which he/she is a national or citizen or a country of his/her residence.
  2. All submitted documents shall be authentic, completed and satisfactory.
  3. The activities to be engaged in while in Japan, or the civil status or the position of the applicant, and the period of stay shall meet the requirements for the status of residence and the period of stay stipulated in the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act. (Cabinet Order No.319 of 1951. hereinafter referred to as “the Act”)
  4. The applicant shall not fall under any of the items of Article 5, Paragraph1 of the Act.

For Indonesian residents who are currently residing in Indonesia are eligible to make visa applications at Japan Visa Application Center. People who have temporary visitors visas in Indonesia are not eligible for visa applications. For those who are living other than Indonesia, please consult with the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General in which are currently residing.

  1. Temporary Visit Visa

    Visiting families and relatives, Friends and acquaintances, Holiday, Visit by Family member of Japanese Living in Indonesia, Business (no reward is accepted) up to 90 days.

  2. Special Visa (Study/Work/Training/Stay within specified period

    Visiting for: Studying, School enrolment, Training, Family stay, entertainment over 90days stay, or paid business.

  3. Transit Visa

    In transit through Japan, airport to airport 

  4. Single Entry Visa for destination group tour for Indonesian citizens
    (organized by travel agent designated)

    To further enhance the friendly relations between Japan and Indonesia, starting from 20 November 2014, Indonesian citizens visiting Japan for Group Tour purposes organized by local Travel Agent who have been appointed by the Embassy of Japan / Japan Consulate Office in Indonesia (hereinafter referred to as Travel Designated Agent), may apply for a short visit VISA for single entry with document requirements relief. With the enforcement of this system, VISA applicants no longer need to attach documents showing economic capacity (financial evidence).
