Overview

Visa Facilitation for family members of EU/EEA and Swiss nationals

Family member means:

Family members are:

  • Spouse/partner/common law spouse
  • The direct descendants (children) who are under the age of 21 or are dependents, and those of the spouse or partner.
  • The dependent direct relatives in the ascending line (e.g. parents) and those of the spouse or partner.

Applicant will have to provide evidence that he/she falls under this category. Applications for Schengen visas for this purpose is free of charge; service fees are applicable if application is handed in at a visa service center.

Visa free travel

If you are in the possession of a valid residence permit for Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus (Rep.), Ireland, Romania, or the United Kingdom explicitly stating ‘family member of an EEU/EA/Swiss national’, you do not need a visa to enter the Netherlands.

Parent(s) of Dutch nationals under 18

If you are the parent of a Dutch national aged under 18, and you want to travel to the Netherlands with your child, you can apply for visa facilitation. Go to the checklist to see which documents you need to submit with your application. On the website of the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) you can find out what requirements you must meet

You can only apply for a visa at a external service provider. If there is no external service provider in the country where you live, you can also apply at the Dutch embassy, or consulate-general, If there is no embassy or consulate-general in the country where you live, you can apply at the nearest one, which may be in a neighbouring country.

Visa Fee

Please note that VFS Global offers an additional optional service for visa applicants in South Africa. VFS Charges an extra service fee for this service, to be paid by the applicant.

    Apart from the visa fee, VFS service charge in ZAR 400 (for submission with biometrics) inclusive of VAT per application will be levied for applicants applying at the visa application centre.

    • The only acceptable modes of payment of Visa fees are by credit/debit card (Only at the Visa Application Centre) and Cash Deposit at Bank and Deposit Slip (Original) needs to be carried as evidence of payments when submitting your application at VFS Global Netherlands Visa Application Centre.

    It is important that the following methods of payment will not be accepted: Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT), Cheque payments and any methods not mentioned above are currently not accepted. Please note that NO Diners club or American express cards can be used to pay for the application.

Family members of EU EEA nationals_Checklist

Complete the online Schengen visa application form, print it out and take it to your appointment. It is strongly recommended to complete the form using the online portal instead of the paper format.

The portal will guide you through the application questions and will make sure you do not forget to enter any necessary values.

Processing Time

The legal processing time for a Schengen visa is 15 calendar days. Please note that your passport will be kept during the visa application process.
