Visa Application Process

Step 1 :

Online registration is mandatory for all applications except Student permits. Please refer to the UDI webpage for entry to the portal. Before registration, please make sure you choose the correct category of permit you are applying for. Remember we are here to assist and help you through the entire application process but are not permitted to advise or guide you on choosing a category.

Step 2 :

If you intend to stay in Norway for more than 90 days, or if you are going to work or study while in Norway, you need a Residence Permit.

Applications for residence permits must as a general rule be submitted by the applicant in person. If you reside in Ethiopia but are a citizen of another country, you must have had a work or residence permit in Ethiopia for the past six months before you submit the application.

All applications for residence permits will be forwarded by the Embassy in Addis Ababa to the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) in Norway for consideration. The applicant has to stay outside the Schengen area until the permit has been granted by UDI.

Step 3 :

Online registration using the Application Portal requires payment of the application fee online using a credit/debit card (Mastercard or Visa). It is also possible for the sponsor in Norway to complete all, or part of the online process for the applicant (e.g. log on and pay the application fee).

Applicants who have not registered their applications online prior to showing up at the Norway Visa Application Centre, may register their applications online at the Application Centre using designated kiosks. Please make sure that you bring a credit/debit card with you to ensure that the Application fee may be paid online using the Application Portal.

There is also a mandatory courier fee charge of $65(ETB1150) which have to be paid in local currency for the couriering of passports to the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kenya. This will be paid at the Visa Facilitating centre along with service fee and optional Value added services.

The relevant checklists can be found under each category on the UDI’s website
