    Dear Customers,

    The Norway Visa Application Centers in Nigeria will resume operations on 22 June 2020. The Centre will however only accept applications for long term (resident permit and student). The office shall be open only on Mondays between 09:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs in Abuja and Lagos until further notice.

    Dear Customers,

    With immediate effect there will be a mandatory courier to send all decisions back to Norway applicants to minimize the risk of exposure and avoid multiple contacts due to Covid-19. This applies to all new and existing applications under processing or processed.

    Restrictions on entry into Norway

    The Norwegian Government has implemented extensive restrictions on entry into Norway due to the spread of COVID-19. As a result, foreigners who do not hold a valid residence permit in Norway will be rejected at the border and refused entry into Norway. For the time being, visas for visitors to Norway will not be granted.

    Temporary closure of VFS’ Visa Application Centers for Norway

    Due to the extensive restrictions on entry into Norway, it will no longer be possible to submit applications for Schengen visas to Norway at any of VFS’ visa application centers. The application centers will still be open for submissions of applications for residence permits to Norway.

    COVID-19 RESTRICTION ON TRAVEL TO NORWAY

    In order to stop the spread of COVID-19 and to contribute to the maintenance of necessary health and care services, the Norwegian Directorate of Health has, according to the Infection Control Act, issued the following decision with effect from 12 March 2020:

    Travellers from countries outside the Nordic region who are not residents of Norway will be asked to return. The alternative is quarantine. Travellers with symptoms will be isolated.

    IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL NORWAY CUSTOMERS

    Dear Customers

    Flexible submission: As of 02 February 2020 travelers will be able to submit their visa applications up to 6 months ahead of the scheduled departure date. Seafarers can apply up to 9 months in advance. As a rule, applications shall be lodged no later than 15 calendar days before the start of the intended visit to the Schengen area.

    Processing time: Visa applications shall be decided on within 15 calendar days after the embassy or consulate has received the application. The decision period may be extended to 45 days when further consideration is needed.

    Are you applying for a visa or residence permit to Norway? Please make note of the following changes:

    New regional system for immigration cases
    As from 03 August 2018, applications for visa or residence permit will be processed by the Norwegian embassy in Accra – Republic of Ghana. However, applications will still be received through VFS Global in Federal Republic of Nigeria after this date.

    Apply and collect as before!

    You will still be able to submit the application and collect the decision letter from the same visa application center as before. Whereas the application procedures remain the same, please take note of the following changes when applying to go to Norway from 03 August 2018:

    • Extended processing time:
      The processing time for a Schengen visa to Norway is up 15 days from the date the application is received at the Embassy. Please take note that you should allow for an additional 3-5 days for the transportation of your documents between the visa application center and Accra – Republic of Ghana. It is highly recommended that you apply well in advance, at least 4 weeks prior to your planned trip.
    • Introduction of a courier fee
      As before, there will be a visa application fee, and a service fee charged by VFS Global. In addition there will be courier fee to cover transportation of your documents between the visa application center and Accra – Republic of Ghana.

    Processing Time

    The processing time for applications is normally up to 15 calendar days. In some cases, applications are sent to the Directorate of Immigration (UDI), and the processing time for these may be up to 30 days. In exceptional cases UDI may take up to 60 days to make a decision.

    • Do not risk a ban of entry to Norway and Schengen.
    • Please note that using counterfeit documents when applying for a visa will lead to “expulsion”. If you are “expelled” you will be banned from entry to Norway, either for a limited period or permanently. As a rule, the prohibition against entry will also apply to the other Schengen countries. Note that the customer is always personally responsible for submitting counterfeit documents.
    • Focus on document control
    • The Foreign Service Mission controls all documents received with visa applications.  
    • The Foreign Service Mission have employed document expertise that is dedicated to deal with counterfeit documents.

    The Norwegian Embassy is going back to paper archiving of cases. It is therefore important that all customers submit copies of all their original documents for archiving purposes.
