Overview

If you have lost your residence card or passport with a re-entry permit during your stay outside Denmark or if you need a re-entry permit for other reasons, you must follow below steps.

The Consulate General advises against making any final travel arrangements, particularly purchase of non-refundable air tickets for a specific date, prior to approval of your application.

Residence Permit Payment Guidance

Follow the steps below to complete all payments required when submitting a Residence Permit Application. Please note 2 payments are required as stated on the checklist.

Step 1: Make payment on https://dys.um.dk/permit/ to the Consulate General in New York, once payment is completed you will receive a payment receipt. Please note this payment can only be collected online. VFS can offer you to use their kiosk computer to make the payment but they are not authorized to collect this fee on behalf of the government.

Step 2: Make payment online for VFS Service when scheduling your appointment with VFS or in person at one of our visa application centers at the time of your submission.


  • A VFS Service fee of EUR 23 ($26.00) is applicable.
  • The fee is non-refundable
  • All fees can be paid by Credit/Debit card only
  • Please note that applicants applying at any visa application center other than New York and choose to pick up their passport would need to pay a mandatory courier fee of Euro 7 (8 USD). This fee includes one-way courier charges pertaining to the transfer of visa applications from New York back to regional VFS Visa Application Centers across the United Staes of America.

Please take note the Consulate General will not proceed with processing your application until all payments are received. It is strongly encouraged for you to attend your appointment with a copy of your payment receipts to avoid delays.

Since online submission of applications require biometrics to be obtained within 2 weeks from the online submission it is recommended to obtain an appointment with VFS Global prior to the online submission of the application since it can take up to 14 days to obtain an appointment with VFS Global.
