Overview

Short-term visa (type C) – is issued for transit through or an intended stay in the territory of the Schengen States of a duration of no more than 90 days in any six-month period from the date of first entry in the territory of the Schengen States

If you wish to visit only Estonia, the Schengen visa has to be applied with the Estonian representation.

If the travel destination includes more than one Schengen member state, the application must be submitted at the representation of the main destination. The main destination is the country where you intend to spend the longest time or where the main purpose of the intended journey is carried out.

If you wish to visit several Schengen member states and you are not sure of the state of main destination or plan to spend the equal number of days in each state, the visa must be applied for at the representation of the state through which you intend to enter the Schengen area.

At the external border, visa holders may be requested to produce documents justifying the purpose and conditions of their intended stay; that they have sufficient means of subsistence, both for the period of the intended stay and for the return to their country of origin or transit to a third state into which they are certain to be admitted, or are in a position to acquire such means lawfully.

• Full face, non-smiling [without sunglasses, a hat/cap or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of their religious belief or ethnic background]

Processing Time

Applications accepted at the Estonia Visa Application Centre will be submitted on the next working day at the Embassy of Estonia. Once the application has been submitted, the applicant can be further requested additional documentation in support of the same. Please note as per the instructions received from Embassy minimum processing time is 15 Calendar days (It may further get delayed depending on the case).

All applications must be submitted at least 15-20 days prior to the proposed date of travel to accommodate any unforeseen processing delays.

Processing time will start excluding the date of submission of application at VFS.

Filling the application

If your purpose of visit is working in Estonia, studying or doing an internship in Estonia, you will need to apply for a long-stay (D) visa with the Estonian representation If the travel destination includes more than one Schengen member state, the application must be submitted at the representation of the main destination. Overview

Airport Transit visa (type A) – is issued for passing through the international transit areas of airports situated on the territory of the Member States. This visa is given for a period of the stay up to 90 days within 180 days.

Common list of third countries listed to Regulation (EC) No 539/2001, whose nationals are required to be in possession of an airport transit visa when passing through the international transit area of airports situated on the territory of the Member States.

Overview

A long-stay (D) visa is an Estonian visa which may be issued for single or multiple entries into Estonia.

D-visa may be issued for the period of stay of up to 365 days within twelve consecutive months and it allows to stay in other Schengen Member States up to 90 days within the period of 180 days.

In case of two consecutive long-stay visas, the whole period of stay shall not be longer than 548 days within 730 consecutive days.

A long-stay visa must be applied for in person at an Estonian representation which handles visa applications.

1. Travel document which is issued within previous 10 years, contains at least two blank pages for visas and is valid at least 3 months after the expiration date of the visa
2. Fully completed and signed application form;
3. One color photo (size 35x45 mm). Photo must meet ICAO requirements and should not be older than six months. Photo must be glued on the visa application from (not stapled)
4. Travel medical insurance which guarantees payment of any costs related to applicant’s medical treatment due to illness or injury during the validity of the visa. As a rule, travel medical insurance must be valid for the whole period of requested visa. If applicant will be covered with Estonian health insurance (Haigekassa) after arrival to Estonia, travel medical insurance must cover only the period until Estonian health insurance (Haigekassa) insurance becomes valid. For example – if person applies visa for short-term employment, travel medical insurance must cover travel period and additionally first 14 days of working;
5. Proof of financial means. Applicant must prove that he or she has sufficient financial means according to the purpose of stay
6. Data concerning close relatives and family members;
7. Biographical data;
8. Additional application form 1 (citizens from NATO member states are exempted);
9. Documents indicating the purpose of journey, e.g. confirmation letter from the host or documents proving that applicant is going to work in Estonia (confirmation from the employer, registration of short-term employment ) or documents proving that applicant is going to study in Estonia. Please see non exhaustive list of supporting documents
10. Additionally, applicants must present documents related to purpose of stay. During the examination of an application, a consular officer may request additional documents.
11. At the time of submission of the application, biometrical data – 10 fingerprints of the applicant is collected; children under the age of 12 and persons for whom fingerprinting is physically impossible shall be exempt from the requirement to give fingerprints;
