Visa Types

AIRPORT TRANSIT VISA (TYPE A)

is issued for passing through the international transit areas of airports of the Schengen Member States.

SHORT-STAY SCHENGEN VISA (TYPE C)

is issued for transit through or an intended stay in the territory of the Schengen Member States of a duration of no more than 90 days in any 180 days period.

Generally, the visa issued allows you to visit any of the Schengen States during the same trip, within the validity of the visa.

A Schengen visa is not appropriate, if you wish to remain in the Schengen area for longer than 90 days, take up employment or establish a business, trade or profession.

The Schengen area covers 26 countries ("Schengen States") without border controls between them. These countries are Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. These countries apply a common visa policy for short stay visas.

LONG-STAY NATIONAL VISA (TYPE D)

is issued for staying in Lithuania for a period longer than 90 days.

A single entry national visa can be issued to a person who has been granted a temporary or permanent residence permit in Lithuania.

A multiple entry national visa can be issued to a person who arrives in Lithuania for work, studies, working holidays or other long-stay purposes.

    Airport transit visa entitles foreigners who are required to have such a visa to pass through the international transit area of airports without actually entering the national territory of the country concerned, during a stop-over or transfer between two stages of an international flight.     VFS will collect Visa fee on behalf of Republic of the Lithuania Embassy.

    Payment for Visa fee is accepted in cash with Japanese yen rate on the appointment day.

    Please note that Visa application processing fee is non-refundable once the application has been processed even if the visa has been refused.

    VFS service charge:

    Apart from the visa fee, VFS service charge in JPY of the equivalent of 17.90 Euros (for submission with biometrics) inclusive of VAT per application will be levied for applicants applying at the visa application centre.

    Please read the specifications for photographs carefully before submitting your visa application.

    The photo needs to display a full frontal view of the face. The size of the face from the bottom of your chin to the hairline must be between 32mm (1 ¼ inches) and 36mm (1 3/8 inches). Please look directly into the camera with a neutral expression and without smiling.

    The facial image must be sharp, clear, and with sufficient contrast. Please avoid photos with reflections or shadows on the face or with red eyes. The background should be neutral and light, providing sufficient contrast to the face and hair (a neutral gray). Reflection from glasses, sunglasses, or tinted glasses is not permitted. The eyes cannot be hidden by the glass frames.

    The photo needs to be printed on high-quality paper with at least 600 dpi resolution; the colours must present a natural appearance and skin tone. The photo must not have kinks, scratches or stains on it. To know more about photo specifications click here.

  • Processing Time

    Schengen short stay visas can only be processed within 15 calendar days (Excluding day of submission at VFS). The processing time can exceed the above mentioned period up to 30 days and, exceptionally, 60 days, if your application needs further scrutiny or if you need to submit additional documents.

    Once you have filled in the form, it must be printed out and signed (p. 37, and at the bottom of page 4). When applying for minors, one of the parents signs the child’s application form.

    Schengen visa allows to transit through or stay in the territory of the Schengen Member States of a duration of no more than 90 days in any 180 days period.

    Visiting more than one Schengen country?

    You will have to obtain the Schengen visa from the country where the main purpose of travel lies.

    When travelling to more than one Schengen country, submit your application with the country where you will be staying the longest. In case of equally long stays, you have to apply with the Schengen country where you arrive first.

    Also travelling to a non-Schengen country?

    When also travelling to another country outside the Schengen area (for example in the Caribbean, Croatia, Romania, the United Kingdom and/or the United States), apply for the other visa first, before applying for the Schengen visa.
