Overview
Citizens of Canada do not need a visa to enter Slovenia for tourist or business travels of up to 90 days.

Who can apply?
In order to be eligible to apply for a Schengen visa at the Embassy of Slovenia your main travel destination must be Slovenia. If you are visiting more Schengen Countries, and Slovenia is not your main destination, you should direct your visa application to the country where you will be staying for the longest period of time. If you will be spending an equal amount of time in more than one Schengen Country, please direct your application to the Schengen Country that is your first destination.
Applicants applying for a Schengen visa must appear in person when submitting their application.
Personal Data Protection Information
VFS Global processes personal data on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and is bound by standard contractual clauses (Commission Decision 2010/87/EU) to provide the same standard of personal data protection as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia under the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679).
Personal data is processed for the purpose of visa applications in administrative procedures conducted by a competent embassy or consulate-general of the Republic of Slovenia.
Your personal data, including photograph and fingerprints, where applicable, are mandatory elements of a visa application. If you decide not to submit the requested personal data, your application may be deemed inadmissible or may be rejected.
The legal basis for processing personal data is provided by Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 July 2009 establishing a Community Code on Visas (Visa Code) and Regulation (EC) No 767/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 July 2008 concerning the Visa Information System (VIS) and the exchange of data between Member States on short-stay visas (VIS Regulation).
You have the right to request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia access to, and the rectification or erasure of, personal data or a restriction on the processing of data concerning you, or to object to such processing, including the right to data portability, pursuant to Articles 15 through 20 of the General Data Protection Regulation.
You have the right to lodge a complaint concerning the processing of personal data with the Information Commissioner of the Republic of Slovenia, located at Dunajska cesta 22, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The above information does not apply to personal data processed by VFS Global concerning the payment of consular and service fees or to personal data processed by VFS Global in relation to additional commercial services.

Photo Specifications
All photos must meet the requirements listed below. If these requirements have not been met, the applicant will have to deliver a new photo that meets the requirements. The photo requirements are the same for children as for adults.
Please note we have additional services including photo service available at all our VFS Visa Application Centres.
Note: We regret we cannot accept photographs that do not meet these requirements
The Photo shall:
- be in sharp focus, clear and with good contrasts
- be printed on quality photo paper with high solution
- be in colours with a light background
- be 35x45 mm in width
- maximum 6 months old, resemble the applicant
- full-face, facing the camera directly, eyes looking straight at the camera
- show the whole head and the top of the shoulders. The face shall occupy 70-80 % of the picture
- show open eyes that are clearly visible. Hair shall not cover the eyes
Regarding glasses:
Glasses are allowed as long as the eyes are clearly visible.
- the glasses cannot be coloured
- the rim must not cover any part of the eyes
- there cannot be reflection in the glasses
Regarding head-dress:
Religious head-dresses are allowed provided that all details of the face are clearly shown.
- Chin, forehead and both cheeks shall all be clearly visible
- Shadows in the face due to the head-dress are not allowed
Fingerprint specifications
Fingerprints are collected from all applicants, except for the following: children up to 12 years of age, applicants who have submitted fingerprints in the last five years (59 months) for a short-stay visa (C Type), applicants for whom fingerprinting is physically impossible, heads of state and government and their delegations if invited for an official visit, and members of royal families if invited for an official visit.
Processing Time
Counting from when all requested documents have been submitted, it’s about 3 weeks. This period may be extended in specific cases, notably when further scrutiny of this application is required, for example, when you are requested to come to an interview or submit additional documentation.
Please Note: The date of the submission of the completed visa application is considered the first day of the processing time that is normally 3 weeks but can be a maximum of 60 days.

Overview
If the purpose of your visit to Republic of Slovenia for specific, legislatively prescribed purposes - education, family reunification, diplomatic accreditation, business people or academics because of the national interest, professional athletes and coaches, reporters and priests or humanitarian workers. for more than 90 days to upto one year, you will need Long-term Visa or Visa D (for a stay between 90 days to 1 year).
If you wish to stay in Slovenia for more than 1 year or engage in gainful occupation or does not fall under the above categories, you need to apply for a RESIDENCE PERMIT. Please refer to below URL to gather information for Residence Permits to Slovenia.

Youth Mobility Program
In order to encourage mobility and exchanges of youth, to enhance excellence of post-secondary institutions and non-governmental organizations and to strengthen competitiveness of businesses, the Republic of Slovenia and Canada have established a Youth Mobility Program.
The Program allows young Canadians and Slovenians, age 18 to 35, to travel to the other country for up to a year. Under the Agreement, individuals within the following 3 categories may benefit from this program:
a) Be a Canadian citizen holding a Canadian passport with a period of validity exceeding the expected duration of stay under this Agreement;
b) Young citizens, including post-secondary graduates, who intend to obtain further remunerated training in the host country under a pre-arranged contract of employment in support of their career development;
c) Registered students of a post-secondary institution in their home country who intend to complete part of their academic curriculum in the host country by undertaking a pre-arranged, mandatory and remunerated internship or work placement, including an arrangement between post-secondary institutions;
d) Young citizens, including registered students in their home country, who intend to travel in the host country and who wish to obtain remunerated employment in order to supplement their financial resources.
Canadian citizens may benefit from the application of the Agreement up to a maximum of two times provided that each time falls under a different category (as mentioned above) and that there is an adjournment between each journey. The duration of each stay shall not exceed one year.
The Embassy would advise the applicants to state specific/exact dates of arrival (point 29 in the visa application form) as the visa and the work permit will be valid from that day on for 12 months.
Eligible Canadian citizens must pick up the personal work permit at the Employment office of the Republic of Slovenia (“Zavod za zaposlovanje Republike Slovenije), Dunajska cesta 20, Ljubljana. These individuals will also receive a copy of their work permit along with their visa, however, in order to legally work in Slovenia he/she must pick up the original.
Canadian citizens who are benefiting from the application of this Agreement are subject to the laws and regulations enforced in Slovenia, particularly with regard to the practice of regulated professions.

All applicants
- Original passport / travel document with a validity that exceeds the intended stay in Slovenia and Schengen area by at least three months. Passport must have been issued within the last ten years and have at least two blank pages.
- A copy of passport's personal details page(s).
- Application form, fully completed, dated and signed by the applicant.
- One recent photograph.
- Previous passports with Schengen visas (if any) + copies.
- Travel medical insurance for the period of the validity of visa, valid in the entire Schengen area, with minimum coverage of 30.000 EUR, covering: emergency medical expenses, hospital treatment, repatriation for medical reasons, or repatriation of remains.
- Evidence of sufficient means of subsistence (in case of minors, parent or legal guardian should submit the evidence):
- Bank account statements for the last six months;
- Proof of regular income (employer's certificate or salary slips for the last six months).
- Proof of accommodation.
Based on a purpose of stay
- Family reunification:
- Original marriage certificate or civil union certificate issued by the competent Slovenian authority;
- Birth certificate (for family reunification with a minor child);
- In case of integration of minor with non-biological parents, the consent of the biological parent or the decision of the Center for Social Work or court decision.
- Work/mandate at a diplomatic or consular representation or international organization in Slovenia:
- Note Verbale by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the sending state or international organization with information about the applicant's post and accompanying family members, if they are holders of diplomatic or official passports.
- Education or training:
- Erasmus students:
- Certificate from receiving institution;
- Certificate from sending institution;
- Learning agreement (Erasmus+ form).
- Courses or other forms of education:
- Certificate of admission to study in Slovenia;
- Confirmation of payment for the course, if payment is required.
- Erasmus students:
- Economic interest:
- Evidence of applicant's employment in Slovenia;
- Letter of approval by the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology of the Republic of Slovenia.
- Interest in the field of higher education:
- Certificate of admission to study or employment contract;
- Letter of approval by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia.
- Interest in the field of culture:
- Employment or collaboration contract;
- Letter of approval by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
- Sport activities:
- Contract with sports club (training, coaching, employment);
- Confirmation of the competent sports organization from the applicant's country of origin stating that the applicant is a professional athlete or sports coach.
- Reporter / Correspondent:
- Written confirmation of applicant's assignment in Slovenia by media company in the applicant's country of origin;
- Valid press card;
- Confirmation of accreditation in Slovenia issued by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
- Religious and humanitarian service:
- Confirmation of applicant's assignment in Slovenia by the religious institution or humanitarian organization in the applicant's country of origin stating date of arrival, length of stay and type of activity in Slovenia;
- Accreditation of religious entity by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia - Office for Religious Communities.
- Youth Mobility:
- Not be accompanied by dependants
- Demonstrate that you have obtained a pre-arranged contract of employment,
- Provide documentation proving registration at a post-secondary institution in Canada and demonstrate that you have obtained a pre-arranged internship or work placement in Slovenia,
- Confirm your intention to travel in the territory of Slovenia with the possibility of obtaining remunerated employment to supplement financial resources;
Optional documents considered necessary by the applicant
- Invitation letter by the inviting company or institution in the form of the Letter of Guarantee certified by the Administrative Unit.

Residence Permit

Overview
If you wish to stay in Slovenia for purposes other than those permitted on the basis of your visa, you are required to be in possession of a residence permit. The first temporary residence permit is issued by a respective Administrative Unit (upravna enota) in Slovenia and must be obtained prior to traveling to Slovenia, apart from the exceptions stipulated by law.

Processing Time
Visa applications have to be submitted at least 30 calendar days before the day of departure but no more than three months before the start of the intended visit.
