Select the visa type that is right for you to see important information on visa fees, documents required, forms, photo specifications and processing times.
Short-term
You can apply for a short-term visa for stays in the Schengen Area of no more than three months (90 days) in a period of six months (180 days) from the date of entry into the Schengen Area.
Long Term
We cannot accept your long-term visa applications from our application centers.
For long-term visits over 90 days, you can contact the Swedish Embassy/Consulate to make an appointment.
Business

Overview
A business visa is granted for those who are visiting Sweden for business or conference meetings.

Relatives of citizens of the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland (spouse, child or dependent ascendant) while exercising their right to free movement. Family member shall present documents to prove this relationship and fill in fields 34 and 35. Note that relatives of Swedish citizens have to pay a fee for visa applications. Spouses of other EU citizens outside Sweden are exempt from the visa fee only if they can submit a settlement plan for Sweden and are travelling to Sweden to collect their residence card issued in Sweden.

- Please kindly note, the valid personal medical travel insurance must covers costs for: emergency treatment by a doctor, urgent ambulance transportation and transportation back to applicant’s home country if required for medical reasons. The insurance must cover at least 30, 000 Euro and be valid in all Schengen states and cover the total length of the stay. Applicants for a visa more than two entries (multiple entries) shall prove that they are in possession of adequate and valid travel insurance covering the period of their first intended visit. Such applicants shall sign the statement (in the application form) declaring that they are aware of the need to be in possession of travel insurance for subsequent stays. If the applicant is not Turkish citizen and does not have residence permit in Turkey the insurance has to be prepared at their country or sent from Sweden.
- For Iraqi and Syrian citizens the Consulate also requires all applicants to present an original national identity card and translations.

Tourist visa is granted for those where the intention is to visit Sweden for tourism and sightseeing without having an invitation from a Swedish referent.

Documents from the reference person in Sweden:
- Invitation, completed in Swedish or English, signed and dated. The invitation should contain information about the date and the duration of the visit.
- Population registration certificate (personbevis). This can be requisitioned from the nearest local tax office or from the website www.skv.se and should not be older than three (3) months.
- Copy of his/her passport (or other id document).
- If the person in Sweden is ill or pregnant , the Embassy would like a medical certificate from the doctor or midwife.
If you intend to stay in Sweden for a period longer than three months than you can apply for a D-visa. D-visa provide the same free movement within the Schengen area as a residence permit does.

Family members of EU/EEA citizen

Overview
Information for EU/EEA family members applying for a visa to enter the Schengen area
As a family member of an EU/EEA citizen exercising their right of free movement in accordance with Directive 2004/38/EC you have the right to move to Sweden together with your family member or join to them in the area to settle there.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Non-Turkish applicants who are going to apply for this category must book an appointment through VFS Call Centre for Direct Submissions. They must submit their applications by themselves to the Istanbul Sweden Consulate General. Those appointments are only on every Wednesday between 10.30 – 11.15.
PLEASE NOTE that Swedish citizen living in Sweden are NOT exercising EU treaty rights and they do therefore NOT hold a right of residence based on Directive 2004/38/EC in their home country, unless they have recently moved back to Sweden from another EU/EEA country.
Family members are:
- Spouse/partner/common law spouse
- The direct descendants (children) who are under the age of 21 or are dependents, and those of the spouse or partner.
- The dependent direct relatives in the ascending line (e.g. parents) and those of the spouse or partner.
- Another family member who is dependent on you for their subsistence or is part of your or your partner’s household or if you are required personally to take care of the family
member for serious health reasons.
Basic facts:
You can apply for a short-stay Schengen visa (type C) which will permit you to enter and stay in Sweden and the Schengen area for up to 90 days. In the event that you wish to remain in the State for more than 90 days as a family member of an EU/EEA citizen exercising their free movement rights, you must apply (when in the Member State) for a Residence Card of a family member of a EU/EEA citizen. It is generally not necessary to submit any other documents than those mentioned in the checklist, although the Consulate strongly recommends that you always travel with valid travel insurance. If there is any doubts about exercising the right of free movement, family relation, marriage, travel and the Consulate therefore finds that you have not showed that Directive 2004/38 is applicable, the Consulate will process your application according to the Visa Code.

There is a service charge of 10 Euro (Inclusive of 20% VAT) levied per application over and above the visa fees
All charges Visa Fee, VFS service charges and all optional service are to be paid in cash only in Euro.
Important Note: The visa fee is non-refundable if the visa application is denied or if the applicant decides to withdraw his or her application before a decision is made.

Please note that the Consulate may in individual cases request additional documents during the examination of an application which are not mentioned in the list, or waive one or more of the required documents.
- Please kindly note, the valid personal medical travel insurance must covers costs for: emergency treatment by a doctor, urgent ambulance transportation and transportation back to applicant’s home country if required for medical reasons. The insurance must cover at least 30, 000 Euro and be valid in all Schengen states and cover the total length of the stay. Applicants for a visa more than two entries (multiple entries) shall prove that they are in possession of adequate and valid travel insurance covering the period of their first intended visit. Such applicants shall sign the statement (in the application form) declaring that they are aware of the need to be in possession of travel insurance for subsequent stays. If the applicant is not Turkish citizen and does not have residence permit in Turkey the insurance has to be prepared at their country or sent from Sweden.
- For Iraqi and Syrian citizens the Consulate also requires all applicants to present an original national identity card and translations.

Processing Time
Please note that the delivery time of your application documents to the Swedish Consulate varies depending on the city of application. For Istanbul, the documents will reach the consulate 1 business day after your application date. For Ankara, it will take 2 business days, and for Izmir and Antalya, 3 business days. Please consider these timeframes when planning your application.
