VISA TYPES

Short Term Visa
If you are planning a short visit to Iceland, you may need to apply for a Schengen visa. Iceland is one of the 29 European countries forming the Schengen Area which have no border controls between them. These countries also issue an uniform visa, the Schengen visa for the stay upto 90 days within 180 days.
Please note that applications can be lodged no more than six months before the start of the intended visit.
Schengen countries: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania.
Long Term Visa
Applicants who wish to apply for Resident Permits or D Visa for Iceland mission will apply for their application with the Directorate of immigration department (contact Email: utl@utl.is ). Once the application is accepted by the Directorate of immigration department, the Directorate of Immigration will request the applicant to visit the nearest visa application centre to submit their application.
Visa application centre in Beijing will connect with applicants and guide them to the next steps of submitting their Passport for visa issuance
Applicants need to submit below materials at Visa Application Centre:
- Passport
- approval letter
and capture biometrics and live photo.
Tourist Visa

Overview
It is applicable in case you are travelling for tourism. This visa is given for a period of the stay up to 90 days within 180 days. Please note, applications can be submitted up to six months before the expected start of the visit.
A visa issued by a Schengen country permits free movement within the Schengen area, unless otherwise stated on the visa sticker. However, please note that according to article 47 (i) of the Visa Code mere possession of a visa does not confer an automatic right to entry and that the holders of visa are requested to present proof that they fulfill the entry conditions at the external border, as provided for in Article 5 of the Schengen Borders Code.)
Appeal
The applicant may appeal a decision made by the Directorate of Immigration to the Immigration and Asylum Appeals Board, Skúlagata 17, 101 Reykjavik, Iceland, or via email to postur@knu.is. The applicant is requested to specify reference no., full name, nationality and the date of the Directorate’s decision in the appeal.
An appeal must be lodged within 15 days of receiving this decision. Further information on the procedure to follow can be found on the website of the Appeals Board.
If the application is refused by an Embassy of a country representing Iceland, the applicant may appeal the decision to the authorities concerned as directed in the refusal decision from the Embassy.
If the reference person would like to appeal on behalf of the applicant, he must have a written authorization from the applicant.

Exemption of Visa Fee
- Children below 6 years on the date of submission

- Researchers from third countries travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research
- Representatives of non-profit organizations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organized by non-profit organizations
- Family member of EU/EEA and Switzerland nationals.
Service Fees
Short Term Service Charge for Visa Application - 220 RMB/28 euros per person (inclusive of Service Taxes) .
Long Term Service Charge for Visa Application - 350 RMB/45 euros per person (inclusive of Service Taxes) .
Please Note:
- The applicable visa fee in CNY is as per the current exchange rate. The same is subject to change without notice.
- All Fees are non-refundable once the application has been submitted at Visa Application Centre.
Documents Required
Checklist for Tourist Visa
The Embassy requests you to hand in the missing/required documentation within 5 days from today. If the Embassy has not received the documentation by this deadline, the Embassy will make a decision based on the documents submitted. (Notes for submitting missing documents)
Notice of Insurance
The insurance policy must mention that the insurance covers Schengen, and not only Iceland, The insurance should cover a minimum of 30.000 Euro (300.000 RMB)
Specifically for medical expenses (sometimes written as medical reimbursement.) An insurance that only covers accidental injury, accidental death, repatriation etc. is insufficient.
If the validity period of the insurance is defined in Beijing time, the insurance may be invalid by the time of departure due to the 6-8 hour time difference between Beijing and Schengen. Therefore, it is highly recommended, and often necessary, to buy insurance for at least one extra day past the planned date of return.
Photo Specifications
All photos must meet the requirements listed below. If these requirements have not been met, the applicant will have to deliver a new photo that meets the requirements. The photo requirements are the same for children as for adults.
The Photo shall:
- Be in sharp focus, clear and with good contrasts
- Be printed on quality photo paper with high solution
- Be in colours with a white background
- Be 35*45mm
- Maximum 6 months old, resemble the applicant, no photoshopping allowed
- Full-face, facing the camera directly, eyes looking straight at the camera
- SShow the whole head and the top of the shoulders. The face shall occupy 70-80 % of the picture
- Show open eyes that are clearly visible. Hair shall not cover the eyes
Regarding glasses:
Glasses are allowed as long as the eyes are clearly visible.
- The glasses cannot be coloured
- The rim must not cover any part of the eyes
- There cannot be reflection in the glasses
Regarding head-dress:
Religious head-dresses are allowed provided that all details of the face are clearly shown.
- Chin, forehead and both cheeks shall all be clearly visible
- Shadows in the face due to the head-dress are not allowed
Processing Time
Applications shall be decided on within 15 calendar days of the date of the receiving of an (admissible) application at the Icelandic embassy. That period may be extended up to a maximum of 30 calendar days e.g. if the application is submitted to the Icelandic immigration service. Exceptionally, when additional documentation is needed in specific cases, the period may be extended up to a maximum of 60 days.
Citizens of certain countries or categories of certain citizens are subject to prior consultation in one or more Schengen countries before a visa may be issued. The processing time in these cases will usually be 10-12 days as a minimum. See list of these nationalities and categories of persons in annex 16 to the Visa code Handbook: Annex 16, English version.

This visa application is applicable in case you are travelling Iceland on a trip as a member of ADS (Approved Destination Status) Tour Groups.

If the application is refused by an Embassy of a country representing Iceland, the applicant may appeal the decision to the authorities concerned as directed in the refusal decision from the Embassy.
If the reference person would like to appeal on behalf of the applicant, he must have a written authorization from the applicant.

Visa Fees

Exemption of Visa Fee
- Children below 6 years on the date of submission

- Researchers from third countries travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research
- Representatives of non-profit organizations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organized by non-profit organizations
- Family member of EU/EEA and Switzerland nationals.

Short Term Service Charge for Visa Application - 220 RMB/28 euros per person (inclusive of Service Taxes) .

Notice of Insurance
The insurance policy must mention that the insurance covers Schengen, and not only Iceland, The insurance should cover a minimum of 30.000 Euro (300.000 RMB)
Specifically for medical expenses (sometimes written as medical reimbursement.) An insurance that only covers accidental injury, accidental death, repatriation etc. is insufficient.
If the validity period of the insurance is defined in Beijing time, the insurance may be invalid by the time of departure due to the 6-8 hour time difference between Beijing and Schengen. Therefore, it is highly recommended, and often necessary, to buy insurance for at least one extra day past the planned date of return.
Photo Specifications
All photos must meet the requirements listed below. If these requirements have not been met, the applicant will have to deliver a new photo that meets the requirements. The photo requirements are the same for children as for adults.
The Photo shall:
- Be in sharp focus, clear and with good contrasts
- Be printed on quality photo paper with high solution
- Be in colours with a white background
- Be 35*45mm
- Maximum 6 months old, resemble the applicant, no photoshopping allowed
- Full-face, facing the camera directly, eyes looking straight at the camera
- SShow the whole head and the top of the shoulders. The face shall occupy 70-80 % of the picture
- Show open eyes that are clearly visible. Hair shall not cover the eyes
Regarding glasses:
Glasses are allowed as long as the eyes are clearly visible.
- The glasses cannot be coloured
- The rim must not cover any part of the eyes
- There cannot be reflection in the glasses
Regarding head-dress:
Religious head-dresses are allowed provided that all details of the face are clearly shown.
- Chin, forehead and both cheeks shall all be clearly visible
- Shadows in the face due to the head-dress are not allowed
Processing Time
Applications shall be decided on within 15 calendar days of the date of the receiving of an (admissible) application at the Icelandic embassy. That period may be extended up to a maximum of 30 calendar days e.g. if the application is submitted to the Icelandic immigration service. Exceptionally, when additional documentation is needed in specific cases, the period may be extended up to a maximum of 60 days.
Citizens of certain countries or categories of certain citizens are subject to prior consultation in one or more Schengen countries before a visa may be issued. The processing time in these cases will usually be 10-12 days as a minimum. See list of these nationalities and categories of persons in annex 16 to the Visa code Handbook: Annex 16, English version.
