Long Stay Visa

Approval from the Department of Immigration and Emigration (DIE), Sri Lanka.

In order to transport Sri Lankan passports to Embassy of Latvia, New Delhi, India for visa processing, applicant can obtain approval directly from DIE before they submit their visa application to VFS Global OR VFS Global can obtain the approval from DIE on applicant behalf. This optional service can be purchased for LKR 1650 (inclusive of all taxes) at the time of application submission.

  • Overview

    According to the Immigration Law of Latvia, students from the third countries (except nationals of these countries) who are enrolled into education institutions accredited in Latvia can apply for the long stay visa at the diplomatic and consular representations of Latvia in the third countries. After receiving a long stay visa (valid for 90 days), upon entering Latvia, students are subjected to apply for a residence permit at the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs of Latvia (OCMA).

    Long stay visa submission procedure

    • Applicants from Sri Lanka can book the appointment online (Click here) however the applicants who are not able to book the appointment online they needs to contact the VFS Global Sri Lanka call center at +94 11 2350 608 to schedule an appointment for Student Long term (D- Visa) application. The days for visa interview & submission of visa documents will be as follows:

    • Applicants who already possess residence permit in Latvia and whose residence permit card expired during the State of Emergency in Latvia, due to COVID19 pandemics, can apply for a Long Stay (D) visa to entry to Latvia through VFS. Applicants need to call on the following helpline number to book the appointment +94 112350 608
    • Applicants who have been granted a Long Stay visa with validity starting as of 12/03/2020 but could not use the visa due to State of Emergency due to COVID19 pandemics in Latvia, can reapply for a Long Stay (D) visa to entry to Latvia through VFS. Applicants need to call on the following helpline number to book the appointment +94 11 2350 608

    NOTE! Video Conferencing is mandatory for all the long term visa applicants applying with study purpose.

    VFS Service charge:

    Applicants applying at the Latvian Visa Application Centre shall be levied a service charge of LKR 12320 + Department of Immigration fee of LKR 1650 (Inclusive of all taxes)

    Please Note:

    • The applicable visa fee in Sri Lankan Rupees is as per the current exchange rate. The same is subject to change without notice.
    • The Visa fee and service charges are non-refundable in case the visa is refused.
    • Video Conferencing would be LKR 13470.
    • Mandatory two-way courier would be LKR. 13470.

      • AIC certificate is a mandatory document for student long stay category, please check for Hello verify and AIC at the time of submission of visa application.

  • Photo Specifications

    Photographs

    • The photograph must be in colour.
    • It should have a white background.
    • It should have a close up of your head and top of your shoulders so that your face takes up 70-80% of the photograph. ]
    • It should be in sharp focus and clean.
    • It should be of high quality with no ink marks and creases.
    • The photograph must show you looking directly at the camera.
    • It should be 3.5 cm X 4.5 cm.
    • It should show your skin tone naturally.
    • It should have appropriate brightness and contrast.
    • The photograph should be a recent one not more than 6 months old.
    • It is to be taken without headgear.
    • Photograph can be taken with headgear, after consideration on case to case basis if the applicant wears headgear on religious grounds. The main characteristics of the face must be apparent from the photograph. Chin, nose, eyes and eyebrows must not be covered; the forehead should be uncovered to the extent that the shape of the face is apparent.
    • It should be without hat/cap.
    • It should be without the applicant's hair tucked behind his/her ears.
    • The photograph should not have any staple marks.
    • Scanned and colour photocopies would NOT be accepted.

  • Processing Time

    According to the Immigration Law of Latvia, the visa processing time is 15 days after submission of all the stipulated documents. The documents are considered to be submitted when received at the Embassy from the VFS Global. If additional information or inspection is necessary for the issue of a long-stay visa, the decision shall be taken within 60 days.
