- Create your personal checklist, this is mandatory for your application. At step 1, please fill in the questionnaire and download the result (PDF). Please be aware that you need to collect all the required documents on your personal checklist. And do not forget to check additional requirements at step 2.
- Bring a printed version of your completed and signed application form, as well as your personal checklist, your current Dutch passport, ID card and all other documents specified on the checklist.
- For every document submitted, you must provide the original (to show at the counter) and a photocopy (to be attached to the passport file). You must also provide a copy of the holder page of your passport. Check if you need to have original legalized. The documents must have been drawn up in (or translated into) Dutch, English, French.
- Make sure that the photograph submitted at the time of your application falls within the specifications. This is important. Unacceptable photographs, that do not meet the Dutch specifications, will not be accepted for submission. Check the photo requirements for Dutch passports and identity cards.

What happens to my old passport or ID card?
If you did not hand your old passport or ID card in when you submitted your application, please bring it with you when you come to collect your new one. The embassy or VFS Global will cancel your old passport or ID card and then return it to you.
If your old document contains visas or residence permits that are still valid and you want to keep those pages intact, you should make this known beforehand.
Photo Specifications
Applicants should be aware that there are no facilities after office hours to have passport photographs made as the shops will be closed. Applicants must therefore ensure that the passport photographs they will submit meet the official requirements, see Photo matrix guidelines 2007
