Overview

If you wish to visit Denmark for a short period of time, you must obtain a visa prior to entry if you come from a country with a visa requirement for entering Denmark.

Please Note: Applicants applying in Dar Es Salaam need to pay mandatory courier charges of Euro 6 (18500 TZS) per application. It includes one-way courier charges pertaining to the transfer of visa applications from Nairobi, Kenya back to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

• From the 01 July 2019, you must fill in your visa application and pay the visa application fee online using ApplyVisa.um.dk
• The applicable VFS service fee in Tanzanian Shillings is as per the current exchange rate. It is subject to change without notice. The fee is non-refundable.
• VFS service fee must be paid in cash at I&M Bank at Maktaba Square Business Park after completion of documents checks by the VFS Counter Staff. All VFS fee deposits are to be made only in cash. Please do not effect bank transfers.
• Deposit slip for payment must be presented, when applying for visa at VFS.

Photo Specifications

Note: The photographs submitted must meet with these specifications.

Please provide one recent photographs (not more than 3 months old) of yourself. The photographs should be in colour and:

• Taken against a light background (white or off-white) so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background.
• Clear share quality and with the face in focus.
• Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print).
• Full face, non-smiling [without sunglasses, a hat/cap or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of their religious belief or ethnic background].
• Please don’t staple or glue the Photograph on the Visa Application Form.

Processing Time

According to the common Visa Code signed by the Schengen member states, the processing time for an admissible visa application must not exceed 15 calendar days. This period may be extended up to a maximum of 60 calendar days in cases where additional documentation or scrutiny is needed. A visa can have one, two or multiple entries depending if you need to travel outside the Schengen area and back again during your visit. When applying for a Schengen visa you must fill in a Schengen visa application form and ask your Danish reference to fill in a VU1 orVU2 or VU3 form, which can be downloaded at the bottom of the page.

Online visa application

It is possible to apply for a visa for Denmark or Iceland at the Danish Embassy in Nairobi online. The purpose of travel must be business, tourism, visiting friends or family, official, medical reasons or transit. The length of stay must not exceed 90 days in any six months period.

Travelling to Greenland or the Faroe Islands

• When filling out the application on this website choose Denmark as your main destination
• When you hand in the cover letter to the VFS Denmark Visa Application Centre, please inform the VFS staff about your main destination being Greenland or the Faroe Islands

How to apply online

When you fill out the Schengen visa application form online, data are transferred directly to the Danish Embassy in Nairobi. Therefore you do not have to hand in a visa application in paper. However, you must hand in a signed cover letter. The cover letter can be printed from the website when the application is finished.

Invitation

When applying for a visa, you must in all cases present an invitation from the person or company in Denmark who is inviting you. There are more types of invitation forms e.g. VU1 for business trips, VU2 for visits to family and friends, VU3 for cultural events, courses, sports events etc.

Invitation form for business visa applications (VU1)

Invitation form to be completed by the host company in Denmark and submitted by the applicant together with the visa application. Note: When the invitation is submitted together with the visa application it will normally not be necessary to obtain further information from the host company, which will shorten the processing time.

Overview

A residence permit is given only upon approval by the Danish Immigration Service in Copenhagen – the process may take 4-6 months. Such a permit will be valid for Denmark only, not the entire Schengen-area. Application forms can be downloaded here . Overview

A Long Term / Residence permit is given only upon approval by the Danish Immigration Service in Copenhagen – the process may take 4-6 months. Such a permit will be valid for Denmark only, not the entire Schengen-area. Application forms can be downloaded here. (Please note that each of the Immigration Service’s application forms for Danish residence and work permits have been developed for a specific type of applicant.)

Visa Fees

The applicable VFS service fee is as per the current exchange rate. It is subject to change.

The service fee is inclusive VAT and is non-refundable.

• Please note Applicants applying in Dar es Salaam need to pay mandatory courier charges which is Euro 6, it includes one-way courier charges pertaining to the transfer of visa applications from Nairobi, Kenya back to Dar es Salaam Visa Application Centre.

Visa Application Centre offers an optional service at a nominal additional cost. Please see more detail from Additional Services

• VFS service fee must be paid in cash at I&M Bank at Maktaba Square Business Park after completion of documents checks by the VFS Counter Staff. All VFS fee deposits are to be made only in cash. Please do not effect bank transfers.
