Overview
A Schengen visa application has to be submitted at the representation/visa application centre of that Schengen Member State (Member State) which is the sole destination of the visit.
If the visit includes more than one destination, or if several separate visits are to be carried out within a period of two months, the Member State whose territory constitutes the main destination of the visit(s) is determined in terms of the length of stay, counted in days, or the purpose of stay
If no main destination can be determined by terms of the length of stay, the application should be lodged at the consulate/visa application centre of the Member State whose external border the applicant intends to cross in order to enter the territory of the Schengen Zone.

Processing Time
Every customer can submit his/her Schengen visa application up to 6 months before the intended travel date to the Schengen Area.
The minimum processing time of a visa application is 15 calendar days from the date when the embassy receives the documents (disregarding holidays), so customers are advised to leave enough time - between the appointment date and travel date - for the Embassy to process their visa application; no guarantees can be given on the visa application’s return date as delays may occur.
In case a specific visa application needs consultation from the other Schengen countries the processing time might be longer than 15 calendar days from the date when the embassy receives the documents.
In order to avoid any delays in the visa application process, it is paramount that the visa application is complete and its documents submitted as per the Embassy’s requirements.
Customers also need to be aware that, particularly during busy periods around Easter, Summer holidays (July and August) and Christmas, appointments are filled very quickly as the Embassy only processes a fixed amount of visa applications per day
Furthermore customers must take that VFS/Embassy’s closures and holidays into consideration (see Public Holidays/Closures) which may extend the visa application processing time
Therefore, VFS recommends that customers:
- Book their appointment as soon as they know they’ll be travelling
- Ensure that their visa application’s documentation meets the Embassy’s requirements
- Leave enough processing time for the Embassy
The Embassy may request additional information/documentation or invite customers for an interview during the visa application process which may cause delays in the visa process, for which customers must accept responsibility.
