Visa Information

Overview

The visa can be valid for maximum 90 days in the course of a period of 180 days. The period is calculated from the date you first crossed the external Schengen border. The visa’s validity period, first possible day of entry and the day you must leave the Schengen area are written on the visa sticker.

A visa does not entitle you to work or carry out any business activities during your visit.

Who is eligible to apply for a Schengen visa at the Slovenian Embassy?

Before beginning the application process, please make sure that you have met the following eligibility requirements:

1. Applications and supporting documents can only be submitted within 6 months of your intended entry date into the Schengen region.
2. An applicant must have a valid passport/travel document, issued within the last 10 years and with at least 2 blank pages. The passport must be valid for at least 3 months from the applicant's departure date from the Schengen area. The passport must contain the applicant’s signature.
3. An applicant must have valid residency in Australia and hold a current Australian return visa, valid for multiple travels to and from Australia, for at least 3 months from their departure date from the Schengen area. Australian visas must be linked to the applicant’s current passport with which they are applying for the Schengen visa. The Embassy does not accept Australian visas still linked to an old passport.
4. In order to apply for a Schengen visa through the Slovenian Embassy, the applicant’s main destination in the Schengen area must be Slovenia. If you will be visiting more than one Schengen country during the same travel, the main destination is determined by your purpose for visiting and the length of stay in each country. If no main destination can be determined, you must lodge your application with the mission of the country you will enter first. If you are unable to determine your main destination in the Schengen region, please seek clarification from VFS or the Slovenian Embassy in Canberra before applying.

Do You Need A Schengen Visa?

PS:

Applications are processed in the order of receipt. Processing usually takes 10 business days from receipt by the Embassy of a complete application and may take longer during peak times and in exceptional circumstances. This estimate excludes the shipping of applications to the Embassy and the return of passports to applicants. The Embassy does NOT provide status updates on visa applications.

An intended stay in the territory of the Schengen States can be of a duration of no more than 90 days in any 180 days period ("short stay visa").

Personal Data Protection Information

VFS Global processes personal data on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia and is bound by standard contractual clauses (Commission Decision 2010/87/EU) to provide the same standard of personal data protection as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia under the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679).

Personal data is processed for the purpose of visa applications in administrative procedures conducted by a competent embassy or consulate-general of the Republic of Slovenia.

Your personal data, including photograph and fingerprints, where applicable, are mandatory elements of a visa application. If you decide not to submit the requested personal data, your application may be deemed inadmissible or may be rejected.

The legal basis for processing personal data is provided by Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 July 2009 establishing a Community Code on Visas (Visa Code) and Regulation (EC) No 767/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 July 2008 concerning the Visa Information System (VIS) and the exchange of data between Member States on short-stay visas (VIS Regulation).

You have the right to request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia access to, and the rectification or erasure of, personal data or a restriction on the processing of data concerning you, or to object to such processing, including the right to data portability, pursuant to Articles 15 through 20 of the General Data Protection Regulation.

You have the right to lodge a complaint concerning the processing of personal data with the Information Commissioner of the Republic of Slovenia, located at Dunajska cesta 22, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The above information does not apply to personal data processed by VFS Global concerning the payment of consular and service fees or to personal data processed by VFS Global in relation to additional commercial services.

Visa and Service Fees

Visa Fee Effective from 31 January 2020

Fees are subject to change and may be varied by the authority at any time. If your application meets the initial completeness checks upon submission it will then be accepted for payment at the visa application centre. You can pay the visa and service fee by credit or debit card. Cheques are not accepted. The total fee amount payable will be displayed on your confirmation letter.

Note:

Incomplete Applications and Refund Policy:

• VFS Global will attempt to contact an applicant via telephone or email for any information lacking as required to constitute a complete application as set out in Annexure A [the checklist]. The applicant will be required to provide the necessary information within 2 working days, failing which the application may be considered incomplete and returned.
• All other fees other than VFS Global Service Fees will be refunded for an application considered to be incomplete [required information to prepare a complete application is not received within 2 working days from the date of contacting the applicant via email or telephone]

Once an application is submitted to the Embassy of Slovenia, a no refunds policy applies.

Fingerprint specifications

Fingerprints are collected from all applicants, except for the following: children up to 12 years of age, applicants who have submitted fingerprints in the last five years (59 months) for a short-stay visa (C Type), applicants for whom fingerprinting is physically impossible, heads of state and government and their delegations if invited for an official visit, and members of royal families if invited for an official visit.

Processing Time

Every applicant can submit his/her Schengen visa application up to 6 months before the intended travel date to the Schengen Area..

The average processing time is 10 business days from when the Embassy receives a complete application. Applicants are advised to leave enough time - between the appointment date and travel date - for the Mission to process their visa application; no guarantees can be given on the visa application’s return date as delays may occur.

For certain nationalities the visa application needs consultation from the other Schengen countries and therefore the processing time may take longer.

In order to avoid any delays in the visa application process, it is paramount that the visa application is complete and its documents submitted are as per the Mission’s requirements

VFS recommends all applicants:

1. to book their appointment as soon as they know they’ll be travelling
2. to ensure that their visa application’s documentation meets the Mission’s requirements
3. to leave enough processing time for the Mission

The Mission may always request for additional information/documents or invite applicants for an interview during the visa application process and this may cause delays in the visa process, which applicants accept responsibility for.

Overview

For visit/stay longer than 90 days one must apply for a visa D (more than 90 days and up to 1 year) or temporary residence permit (more than 1 year). Please click here for more information regarding residence permits.

Long-stay visas (Visa D) only for the following purposes:

1. For family members of an EU citizen or Slovenian national who enter the country for the purposes of family re-unification
2. For diplomats and administrative or technical staff and their family members as stipulated by Article 47 of the Aliens Act
3. For participants in courses, studies or other forms of education/training for a period ranging from 3 months to 1 year at most (e.g. language courses, summer schools, etc.)
4. For economists and business people, due to economic interests of the Republic of Slovenia demonstrated by the opinion of the ministry responsible for the economy
5. For foreign students and employees in higher education, because of Slovenia's interest in the area of higher education and science demonstrated by the relevant ministry
6. Sports trainers, professional athletes or private sports operators aiming to conclude an employment contract or work contract with a club or sports organization with its head office in the Republic of Slovenia

7. for foreign media reporters or correspondents

8. Priests and other persons in the clerical profession in registered religious communities, or third-country nationals organizing/leading charitable and humanitarian activity in recognized humanitarian organizations or registered religious communities.

Overview

Slovenia Working Holiday Scheme with Australia
From 1 January 2016 there are each year 200 places available under Working Holiday scheme allowing young citizens from Australia to stay in Slovenia for up to 12 months.

To be eligible you must:

• be at least eighteen but have not turned thirty one at the time of application for a visa;
• not be accompanied by dependent children;
• hold a valid passport and an onward travel ticket or sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket;
• possess sufficient funds for personal support for a stay;
• meet health and security/character requirements;
• have not previously taken part in a ‘Work and Holiday’ program;
• hold secondary school qualifications;
• provide a letter from the relevant government ministry which includes a statement to the effect that it has consented to their stay.

During this period holders of a ‘Work and Holiday’ visa are allowed to leave and re-enter the territory of the Party using the same visa. ‘Work and Holiday’ visa holders must not engage in employment that is contrary to the purpose of the ‘Work and Holiday’ arrangement. It is not intended that ‘Work and Holiday’ visa holders work for the full twelve calendar months of their visit. In particular, visa holders must have regard to the principal purpose of the stay under the arrangement which is a holiday, with work being incidental to the holiday and not be employed by any one employer for more than six months, unless permission has been granted. ‘Work and Holiday’ visa holders will not be permitted to engage in study or training for more than four months during their stay.
