Visa Information

Overview

Visitor visa is for those who are visiting Japan up to 90 days for purposes of sightseeing, business and visits relatives, friends, or acquaintances.

Transit visa is for those who are stopping over in Japan while en route to another country due to flight schedules.

All the above purposes of journey to Japan shall exclude any activities engaging or involving the management of business or remuneration.

Please only apply for a visa within 3 months of your intended travel date.

Visa Fees

You must pay the applicable Visa fee and Service charge when submitting your application. The Visa fees are determined based on your Nationality and Type of Entry to Japan. Please refer to the table below to know your visa fees:

*A photocopy of flight ticket, boat ticket, train ticket, accommodation that must be indicating Okinawa or Miyagi, Fukushima, Iwate prefecture as a destination

**A photocopy of Certification of Student letter and/or School Pass issued by NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT or SUSS that certifies your status as an Undergraduate

Value-Adde Services:

The value-added services are optional items. Availing these services will not impact the processing time or result of your application.

Please note that the VFS service fee and value-added service fee are non-refundable regardless of whether your application is approved or not.

Please note that as per the refund policy, below rule applies:

1. Services must be cancelled at least 3 business days prior to the date scheduled for an appointment for a visa and proof of the cancellation must be submitted together with the Refund Request Form.

2. If the appointment is cancelled in less than 3 business days, the service fee is non-refundable.

Photo Specifications

Please submit passport-size colour photo(s) along with your visa application. The photograph must be:

• Not more than 6 months old.
• Photograph should not be used in any of the previous visa or any ID.
• 45mm x 35 mm or 2inch x 1.4inch
• Coloured, with plain White background.
• Hair should be tied & no spectacle’s
• Taken looking straight forward and face seen clearly. (70% face coverage)
• No outline border in the photograph.
• Photos with Glossy finish.

Note*: The Embassy may cancel the application if the submitted photograph is older than six months or does not meet the required specifications.

Processing Time

The visa application process takes a minimum of 10 business days from the date of submission (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays announced by the Embassy of Japan in Singapore).

Depending on the travel purpose or individual circumstances, more time may be required for visa approval to be granted.

Besides, please note that the visa application process will begin only once we have received all the required documents from the applicant. If any additional documents are needed, this may result in a longer processing time.

We do not accept any expedite requests.

The applicant needs to submit his/her passport during the entire visa application process. Should the applicant need his/her passport urgently, please withdraw the visa application to be able to return the passport.

*Note①: Foreigners who would like to perform remunerative work in Japan or for long term stays over 90 days in Japan etc, which are for purposes other than that of temporary visitor, should apply for a “Certificate of Eligibility” in Japan at the Regional Immigration Bureau of Japan nearby before the visa application.
