    Re-entry visas (National - long stay) allow those who are already lawful residents in Italy to re-enter the country in the following cases:

    • the applicant demonstrates to have lost their valid residence permit card (Permesso di soggiorno), as proven by a Police report;
    • the applicant possesses a valid Italian residence permit but has been living out of Italy for more than 6 months;
    • the applicant possesses an expired residence permit and the receipt of the renewal request of the said permit.

    Please note that the applicant must state the reasons they have left Italy before completion of the renewal procedure or the reasons they spent more than a semester out of the country and attach documental proof of the same, if available.

    Kindly note that the Re-entry visa is a single-entry visa and it is meant for the purpose of entering the country in order to request/complete the renewal procedure for the residence permit.

    The processing time may take up to 90 days. We kindly suggest that you plan your travel accordingly.

    Applications submitted at Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad the above visa fees will be applicable with effect from 1st April 2025.

    VFS Global service charge

    In addition to the visa fees, an applicant requires to pay the VFS Global service Charge (inclusive of all taxes) of INR 537 payable in Cash/card/UPI.

    To add value to our customer, we offer some value-added services. You will need to pay an extra fee in addition to the visa application fee when you avail these value-added services. To know about these services please refer the additional service page of this website.

    Note: Visa fee and service charges are not refunded if your application is refused by the Consulate General of Italy, or if you withdraw you application while it is under processing at the Consulate General of Italy, Bangalore.

  • Documents Required

    Please note all of the required documentation listed below in the checklist is mandatory for all applicants, including such cases where flights, accommodation, insurance and other items may be arranged by applicant, employer, travel companies or any other companies or individuals.

    • Applicant has to submit the original Invitation letter and not the photo copy.

  • Photo Specifications

    Photograph Quality
    The photographs must be:

    of white background and the applicant should wear dark coloured clothes

    no more than 6-months old

    3.5cm x 4.5cm

    close up of your head and top of your shoulders so that your face takes up 70–80% of the photograph

    in sharp focus and clear

    of high quality and resolution with no ink marks or creases

    The photographs must:

    show you looking directly at the camera

    show your skin tones naturally

    have appropriate brightness and contrast

    be printed on high quality paper, and at high resolution

    Photographs taken with a digital camera must be high quality colour and printed on photo-quality paper.

    Style and lighting
    The photographs must:

    be colour neutral

    show your eyes open and clearly visible—no hair across your eyes

    show you facing squareon to the camera, not looking over one shoulder (portrait style) or tilted, and showing both edges of your face clearly

    be taken with a plain light-coloured background

    be taken with uniform lighting and not show shadows or flash reflections on your face and no red eye

    Glasses and head covers
    If you wear glasses:

    the photograph must show your eyes clearly with no flash reflection off the glasses, and no tinted lenses (if possible, avoid heavy frames— wear lighter framed glasses if you have them)

    make sure that the frames do not cover any part of your eyes.


















    Head coverings:

    - are not permitted except for religious reasons, but your facial features from bottom of chin to top of forehead and both edges of your face must be clearly shown.
    Expression and frame
    Your photographs must:

    - show you alone (no chair backs, toys or other people visible), looking at the camera with a neutral expression and your mouth closed.
